Terminals and routes
Which ferry terminal do I need? +
HarbourFront for most of Batam, for Karimun and Nirup Island. Tanah Merah for Bintan, Batam Centre, Nongsapura and Johor. Marina South Pier for St John's and Kusu Island.
How do I get to HarbourFront? +
The terminal is at 5 HarbourFront Avenue, above HarbourFront MRT station on the North East and Circle Lines; take Exit B. By taxi it is 10 to 15 minutes from the city centre.
How do I get to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal? +
Take the MRT to Bedok or Tanah Merah and change to bus 35. By taxi it is 10 to 15 minutes from Changi Airport and 20 to 30 minutes from the city centre.
Which ferry goes to the Bintan resorts? +
Bintan Resort Ferries sails from Tanah Merah to Bandar Bentan Telani, the terminal for the Bintan Resorts area. For Bintan's main town, take the ferry to Tanjung Pinang.
Check-in and luggage
How early do I need to be at the terminal? +
At HarbourFront and Tanah Merah, baggage drop opens 60 minutes and closes 20 minutes before departure. Operators set their own deadline: Batam Fast and Majestic 30 minutes, Bintan Resort Ferries 40 minutes.
How much luggage can I take? +
The terminal rule is one piece of hand luggage of up to 10 kg and 55 x 40 x 20 cm, plus 20 kg of checked baggage per boarding pass, with no single piece over 30 kg. Operators may add their own limits.
Can I take my dog on the ferry? +
Batam Fast carries no animals, not even assistance dogs, and Bintan Resort Ferries does not carry animals either. Pets are not allowed on Kusu Island. For other routes, ask the operator before you book.
Documents and entry
Do I need the SG Arrival Card when I come back by ferry? +
Yes. Visitors submit the SG Arrival Card before they arrive in Singapore, also when they come by sea. It is free and can be submitted up to three days before arrival, including the day itself.
What do I need to enter Indonesia? +
Your passport must be valid for at least six months from arrival. Check whether your nationality needs a visa or can use Indonesia's e-VOA, which allows a stay of 30 days, and fill in the digital arrival card.
Do I need the MDAC for Desaru or Tanjung Pengelih? +
Yes. Malaysia asks foreign visitors to submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) within three days before travel, and it covers arrivals by sea.
Do I need my passport for St John's or Kusu Island? +
No. The Southern Islands belong to Singapore, so there is no passport control on the ferries from Marina South Pier.

Is there a time difference to Bintan? +
Yes, Bintan is one hour behind Singapore. The sailings from Bintan back to Singapore are in local time.
Is there a time difference to Batam? +
Yes, Batam is one hour behind Singapore, and so is Karimun. The sailings from Batam and Tanjung Balai back to Singapore are in local time.
When is the last ferry back from Kusu Island? +
On weekdays, the last ferry from Kusu back to Marina South Pier leaves at 16:15. The Kusu route page has the departures for your date.
