The crossing at a glance
Tanah Merah - Batam Centre is the eastern way to Batam. Batam Fast, Majestic and Sindo sail it every day, with around eleven departures between them from the morning to the evening. The crossing takes about an hour, and the ferries carry foot passengers only.
Terminal and getting there
The ferries leave from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in the east of Singapore. Take the MRT to Bedok or Tanah Merah and change to bus 35 to the terminal; by taxi it is 20 to 30 minutes from the city centre and 10 to 15 minutes from Changi Airport. The Tanah Merah terminal guide has the facilities.
Check-in and passport control
Batam Fast and Majestic close check-in 30 minutes before departure; with Majestic you also have to be at the pre-immigration gate by then, and online check-in closes one hour before departure. Sindo asks for baggage to be checked in 45 minutes ahead. Tanah Merah has self-service check-in kiosks.
Luggage
20 kg of checked baggage per boarding pass is included, with no single piece over 30 kg, plus one piece of hand luggage of up to 10 kg and 55 x 40 x 20 cm. Excess and bulky items are charged. Batam Fast carries no animals, not even assistance dogs.
Arrival in Batam Centre
At Batam Centre you clear Indonesian immigration. Check before you travel whether your nationality needs Indonesia's e-VOA, and fill in the digital arrival card. The sailings back to Tanah Merah are in the departures on this page; Singapore asks for the SG Arrival Card on return. Batam is one hour behind Singapore, so the sailings back are in local time.
