Tanah Merah - Tanjung Pinang is the ferry to Bintan's main town. Majestic and Sindo sail it every day, with around four departures between them from late morning to early evening. The crossing takes about two hours, the longest of the Tanah Merah routes, and the ferries carry foot passengers only.
Terminal and getting there
The ferries leave from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in the east of Singapore. Take the MRT to Bedok or Tanah Merah and change to bus 35 to the terminal; by taxi it is 20 to 30 minutes from the city centre and 10 to 15 minutes from Changi Airport. The Tanah Merah terminal guide has the facilities.
Check-in and passport control
Majestic closes counter check-in 30 minutes before departure and asks you to be at the pre-immigration gate by then; online check-in closes one hour before departure. Sindo's baggage counter also closes 30 minutes before departure, but Sindo asks for baggage to be checked in 45 minutes ahead, so plan for the earlier time.
Luggage
20 kg of checked baggage per passenger is included, plus one piece of hand luggage of up to 10 kg and 55 x 40 x 20 cm. Excess baggage and bulky items such as bicycles are charged.
Arrival in Tanjung Pinang
In Tanjung Pinang you clear Indonesian immigration. Check before you travel whether your nationality needs Indonesia's e-VOA, and fill in the digital arrival card. Bintan is one hour behind Singapore, so the sailings back to Tanah Merah, shown in the departures on this page, are in local time. On return, Singapore asks for the SG Arrival Card.
