Marina South Pier is the ferry pier for Singapore's Southern Islands. Singapore Island Cruise sails from here to St John's, Lazarus and Kusu Island, several times a day. These are day trips within Singapore: no passport control, no arrival card.
The island ferries
St John's Island and neighbouring Lazarus are about 30 minutes away, Kusu Island with its temple about 45 minutes. The boats run a loop from Marina South Pier via Lazarus and Kusu back to the pier; there is no direct link between Kusu and St John's or Lazarus. Getting to Marina South Pier
The pier is at 31 Marina Coastal Drive. Take the MRT to Marina South Pier station and use Exit A; the ferry is a minute's walk away. In the Kusu pilgrimage season parking is limited, so public transport is the easier choice.
Tickets and the counter
Singapore Island Cruise sells return tickets: one ticket covers the way out and back. Tickets are strictly non-refundable, but you can change them subject to availability. The counter is the orange one behind the security check; arrive at least 25 minutes before departure.
Planning your day
The last boat back sets the length of your visit: on weekdays, the last ferry from Kusu leaves at 16:15. The islands have no medical facility, and the only shop is on Lazarus, open Friday to Sunday, so bring water and food and take your rubbish back with you. Overnight stays need a camping permit from the Singapore Land Authority, applied for at least 14 days ahead; on Kusu, overnight stays are not allowed at all.
Pilgrimage season
In the ninth month of the lunar calendar, roughly between September and November, thousands of pilgrims visit Kusu. The ferry runs more often, weekends are the busiest days, and a weekday visit is the calmer choice.
